Workshop Series
Saturdays with Shakespeare

This series for students age 9-15 will be held on campus Saturdays, 9 a.m. to noon, March 24 through April 21, with an April 28 trip to Winedale. Registration is required. Registration is limited to 25-30 students depending upon the number of assistant teachers we are able to engage. A certain number of those slots are reserved for students from schools in low-income communities participating in Shakespeare at Winedale Outreach. At present, due to an quick public response to this posting, all slots for other students are filled, but you are very welcome to email in order to be put on the waiting list, with the hopes that we can find ways to accomodate more students as the March 24 date draws nearer.

We will work as an ensemble to explore a Shakespeare text and perform it at the Winedale "Festival of Play" on April 28. The workshop series is free; the only requirement is that students commit to the intensive work and that they be able to attend every session in full. The first annual UT Children's Shakespeare Festival

Curious how a fourth-grader might portray Puck? Come see children from across Texas perform selections of scenes from "A Midsummer Night's Dream," "A Comedy of Errors," "The Taming of the Shrew," and "Twelfth Night." Admission is free and open to the public.

1st annual UT Children's Shakespeare Festival, Wednesday, May 10 A performance by four student groups participating in UT Shakespeare at Winedale Outreach, a program in the UT College of Liberal Arts.

Student groups from: Southeast Austin, Round Rock, Victoria, Houston; a range of grades 4-8 Scenes from: Midsummer Night's Dream, Comedy of Errors, Twelfth Night, Taming of the Shrew

Students will be arriving between 10:30 and 11:15 and will be in the theater, and can hang around a bit afterwards for interviews etc.

The Children's Shakespeare Festival is an extension of The Festival of Play at Winedale, now in its tenth year.

Eeyore's Birthday Celebration

As part of the Festival of Play and Shakespeare at Winedale's Educational Outreach Program, there will be performances by Austin, San Antonio and Victoria elementary students of scenes from Shakespeare's plays. After that will be a celebration of Eeyore's Birthday with games (egg toss, cake-walk, etc.) with a big birthday cake to share. The Festival of Play and Eeyore's party are free.

Camp Shakespeare 2006 Applications Due

Camp Shakespeare is a 12-day residential camp for young people, ages 10-14, held in the small town of rural Round Top, Fayette County, Texas, with daily activity at the University of Texas Winedale Historical Center, located five miles away. Camp Shakespeare is dedicated to exploring a Shakespearean play through performance. This is an experience in daily performance, in doing. It is not an "acting" or "theater" camp. Camp Shakespeare exists to explore play.

Camp Shakespeare is directed by Professor Jim (Doc) Ayres, founding director of Shakespeare at Winedale, and Regents Professor of Shakespeare and member of the Academy of Distinguished Teachers at The University of Texas at Austin.

This early 15th century play in celebration of the Christmas season will be performed Sunday, December 11, at 2 p.m. during the Winedale Christmas celebration on the Winedale grounds. Admission is free. No reservations are necessary.

"The Second Shepherd's Play"

This early 15th century play in celebration of the Christmas season will be performed Saturday, December 5, 2005, in Henkel Square in Round Top, Texas, and again on Sunday, December 11, at 2 p.m. during the Winedale Christmas celebration on the Winedale grounds. For the Round Top performance a stew dinner ($5) will be served at 5 PM, with Christmas carols by local children at 6:15 and the play at 6:30. Admission is free. No reservations are necessary.

A Midsummer Night at Winedale

On Saturday, July 23rd, the Shakespeare at Winedale students will perform previews of all the summer plays, Hamlet, A Midsummer Night's Dream and The Taming of the Shrew at our 5th annual "Midsummer Night at Winedale" fundraising gala in Winedale. Please join us at 7 PM as this special event begins with wine and Hors d'oeuvres, followed by a seated dinner and many opportunites to bid at our spectacular Silent Auction.

You will enjoy the previews and a scene performed by students from the Outreach program in our "newly air-conditioned" Theatre Barn. Individual seats are $125.00, tables are $1250.00 and sponsorships are $2500.00.

We strongly urge you to make reservations for the plays this summer, particularly on Saturday afternoons and evenings. Tickets for each of the plays are $8 (please see exceptions below). For reservations, call the Winedale Historical Center 979-278-3530 (9 a.m.-5 p.m. daily) or write them at P.O. Box 11, Round Top, TX 78954. We do not confirm reservations for groups of more than 10 unless payment is made in advance. If wheelchair accessibility is necessary, please specify when making reservations. Tickets are not mailed, but are available at the theatre 1 1/2 hours prior to each performance. Insofar as possible, preferential, reserved seating will be given to contributors to this year's program; other seats are available on a first-come-first-served basis. Reserved seats must be occupied 10 minutes prior to performance.
